I've been playing with fiber and spinning wheels.
Yesterday I did some solar dyeing with the 2 ply Shetland handspun. I used M's old solar tea jar and stuffed it full of balls of yarn before pouring vinegar and drops of blue food coloring with violet Wilton's icing. What makes this yarn special to me is I spun this yarn using the HC e-spinner. Finally. It took me a while to get the hang of spinning fine with the e-spinner but I did it. Now I am a bit addicted to putting my knee up and letting the e-spinner do all the work.
I found a spinning wheel bag for the Pocket Wheel thanks to the group on ravelry.com. These are from Land's End and were 30% off. I decided to get one for the HC as well as two small ones for bobbins and fiber. One small bag fits nicely on one treadle of the PW. Perfect. The pockets in the two larger bags are just right for all the stuff you need for spinning. None of the canvas bags are padded but I doubt I'll take them on a plane. The cats aren't pleased that they can't access/reaarange all the goodies in the bags but I'm pleased that my new wheels are handy.
Speaking of ravelry...I read this on the journey wheel group and fell like a ton of bricks.
Isn't this spindle pretty? I love the Bossies I currently own and this is just as perfect as the others.
It's been a lovely summer so far here. I hope yours has been, too.
Beautiful yarn! Good work with the dye pots, er, jars ;)
Nice that you were able to locate the bags you needed for the wheels...and congrats on the new spindle! What a beauty!
And it has been a lovely summer so far, right now our (your) daylilies are showing off...is that your clematis? Wow! looks very happy!!

The solar dyed yarn is beautiful. Will it fade?
Nope - I havent had any trouble with any fading. I have the skeins line
drying in the sun right now.

Solar dyeing with mullein...not so successful. But I'm hoping it's because I picked it too early in the spring.
Love the Bossie. Which wood is it? And the yarn COLORS! Swoon!
