I spent the last week crocheting (size G hook) a top down (seamless) raglan sweater of Grayce Aggen's Plain and Fancy Sport weight yarn in "gold variations" colorway. I wanted something mindless yet entertaining. I have always loved the Meadow Stitch in my Mon Tricot Dictionary and so I began. I finished this morning. It will go into a bath as soon as I finish this post. Of course, M and his camera are not here so we all have to make do with my photography (blech) but that's the breaks sometimes.
M and I have been watching "Grimm" and "Once Upon a Time" and reading Elizabeth Ann Scarborough's books The Godmother, The Godmother's Apprentice and The Godmother's Web. I bought these 3 books while on the farm - mostly for the endurance trail (not really) and the Southwest descriptions of the Navajo country I was homesick for.
I read this passage (I changed the line divisions) in the Godmother's Apprentice (page 9) while crocheting the sweater:
"...No houses at all.
Only meadows with horses grazing upon them...
Meadows for poets to rant about and artists to paint.
Sheep meadows.
Horse meadows.
Grass meadows.
Meadows without so much as your stone fence or your round tower to distinguish them..."
I had no choice but to use some of the Osage Orange (Bois d Arc) wooden buttons Cyndy made for me. Missouri and Kansas friends sent me osage orange branches a few years ago for hangings I was doing and I told Cyndy how much I loved the osage orange trees which flanked the pastures (meadows) at the farm.
Blurry photo but the color way is more accurate. And you can see how lovely the buttons are.
It's been 13 yrs since I left the farm. I can now look back with fondness and laughter. And now a sweater to remind me of the fun stuff. And when M has the time and the weather cooperates, there will be better photos. Hopefully in a meadow!!

It was meant to be! And all the better for the memories it evoked!

Your projects are always so much more than yarn and pattern..they tell a story!
